Halloween 2009
Where
Cambridge and surrounding areas
Join the ghosts and ghouls of Cambridge this Halloween. Cambridge events with bloodcurdling shocks and frights include ghost tours, a full-scale haunted village at Kentwell, fancy dress costumes and witches trails.
Candlelit Punts
In the run up to Halloween, Cambridge events are given a terrifying transformation and seemingly innocuous activities have a chilling edge. Get tickets for punting during Halloween, for example, and you won't enjoy a relaxing drift down the river, but an eerie candlelit tour of the College Backs. There's a walking tour as well where you can uncover the ghosts that haunt the city's streets.
Haunted Village
At Kentwell you can venture into a full-scale haunted village called Scaresville. Tours of this creepy site run during the evenings. There's also ghost walks through the grounds throughout October and for younger visitors there's some less spooky activities including pumpkin carving and fancy dress.
Apple Bobbing
You don't have to scare yourself to enjoy Halloween. Cambridge events which, although creepy, are family friendly include the Halloween activities at The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey. Children can pick up a pumpkin, follow the witch's trail, try some apple bobbing and have their face painted. But for something scarier head to Wimpole Hall where there'll be ghost tours. Dress up and see if you can spot the spirits lurking in the hall and gardens.
Storytelling
If you fancy a quieter, more traditional Halloween, Cambridge events which will send a gentle tingle down your spine include spooky tales from the Cambridge Storytellers at CB2 Cafe. Go along to hear some dark tales on a winter's night, or tell your own scary story.
Raptor
Another event which is sure to please children is the twilight flights at the Raptor Foundation. At dusk you can see the owls take part in fantastic displays and there'll be host festive fare on offer. At Wandlebury Country Park there's plenty to keep little ghosts happy with pumpkin carving and craft activities followed by a candlelit twilight walk through the park and there'll be hot soup to chase away the chills. Fancy dress is encouraged and there'll be prizes for the best costume.
Halloween Cambridge events take place on and around 31st October 2009.
