A trendy bar serving fabulous cocktails to Cambridge's young cool kids.

The Venue
Just off the busy Market Place sits a bar that suits all moods. It's part of a chain of bars which has branches in Birmingham, Islington and Southampton.

Set over two floors with very different atmospheres, Bar Room Bar in Cambridge, also known as BRB@the Cow, is a great place for those looking for something with the right balance of sophistication and fun.

Upstairs is a light and airy bar with plenty of table seating for those who want to eat or mull over a cocktail. Walls are either roughly painted cream or exposed brick, and the furniture is rough and ready wood. The steel and wood bar stands out as the only sleek piece of the bar, beckoning all to purchase a drink.

Downstairs is completely different, with dark lighting, black blocks of leather to sit on with a moodier, more underground feel that suits the late night dancing that occurs down here.

The People
It’s all about the people at Bar Room Bar, and in the Cambridge branch it's no exception. Everyone is fashionably dressed, classy yet casual and the crowd creates a vivacious ambience with ease.

The friendly staff make ordering drinks all the more fun, and the refreshing colours of upstairs add to the bright fun atmosphere.

The darkness of downstairs makes the crowd seem that much more mysterious and sexy, creating the perfect setting for the regular DJ sets playing the latest in commercial and dance music.

The Food
To add to the sociable atmosphere, Bar Room Bar offers food that’s ideal for sharing. Their tasty stone-baked pizzas are a popular choice (which are two for one on Thursdays) and a delicious treat, with a large range of toppings, all for around £7.50 for a 12 inch.

There are also fresh gourmet salads and sandwiches for those wanting something less filling, but for something a bit different try the grazing platters – mezze, meat or mexed, for around £11 for a snack with some friends.

The Drinks
The cocktail list is large, so much so it makes your head spin with the difficult decision of which one to chose. All of them are priced at £4.50 to £4.95, so they’re certainly value for money, especially on Thursdays when it’s two for one!

Classics like White Russian and Mojito are all done well, but there are also enough choices to try something different, like Cheeky Chops, a combination of citrus vodka, lemon juice, lemonade and black raspberry liqueur for a fruity sensation.

The wine list is just as interesting, with unique names such as The Paddock (an Aussie shiraz) or Acacia Tree (a South African sauvignon blanc) to tempt you. Prices vary from £12.50 to 17.20 a bottle. The beers available are Kronenbourg, John Smith’s and San Miguel, among others.

The Last Word
An entertaining bar with lots of drinks to choose from and a naturally trendy clientele.
