A popular pub with character and a good choice of ales which change on a monthly basis.

The Venue
The Salisbury Arms has a good location between Mill Road and the station on Tenison Road. It has some fun and eccentric decorations such as the bike suspended from the ceiling and a couple of dummies, one of which is riding the bike!

Posters cover the walls and there are some large tables for groups, a well-stocked jukebox, and a long bar but you'll have to move down to the lower section as it's the only part that's used.

The People
The Salisbury Arms has a great atmosphere. It is very busy on Friday and Saturday nights and popular with students as well as people stopping for a drink on their way home from work.

It can become quite crowded with a long wait at the bar because it isn’t a particularly large pub, but this is typical of many of the bars in Cambridge. It isn’t really a pub for the kids unless, perhaps, you're bringing them for a meal like Sunday lunch.

The Food
Traditional pub food is what you'll find at The Salisbury Arms. Baguettes and jacket potatoes are on the menu for about £5, and sausage and mash or fish and chips are about £7.

You can also get chilli con carne, whitebait, scampi or, if you're suffering from the night before, there's ham, egg and chips. Portions are large and really good value for money. You will find some great comfort food here such as a massive chip butty for £3. Their Sunday lunches will set you back £7.95.

The Drink
The pub is well known for its real ales and it always has a choice of eight. Four of these are permanent, while the other four are guest ales which change on a monthly basis. They go from £2.80 to £3.10 a pint.

For lager lovers there's Erdinger on tap for £4.10, which is good and tasty. Kirin Ichiban is a smooth Japanese lager, well worth a try, which is also on tap and they do other international lagers such as Red Stripe.

The Last Word
The Salisbury Arms has a great choice of drinks, and worth the walk or cycle from town.
