This student pub always has a friendly atmosphere, and it also overlooks the gorgeous greenery of Parker’s Piece.

The Venue
Set over two floors, with all eyes directed at the expansive green beside it, The Avery is a spacious pub with lots going on.

With large TV screens and a pool table, it has a sporty feel, much to the appreciation of the students that frequent it. The decor is basic, with a generic faux-rustic look.

The oak beam roof looks impressive and the exposed brickwork adds a practical cool edge. The furniture is basic, with lots of lounge areas with sofas and low tables for people to feel as comfortable as they do in their own living room.

It all looks quite new but nothing imaginative has been done with the space or decor to make it truly special.

The People
The Avery attracts students from both Cambridge and foreign student colleges, football fans and youthful locals.

The pleasant view of the green adds serenity, and the camaraderie that comes from watching sports together over a drink creates a friendly sociable atmosphere.

The students all seem to feel at home in the cosy environment, and although the bar itself isn’t that attention-grabbing there’s still a steady crowd of laidback locals who like feeling at ease here, ensuring the place always has an amiable vibe.

The Food and Drink
For about £2.50 you can get a pint of IPA, Abbots Ale and Old Speckled Hen plus Carling, Fosters, Stella and Heineken, which makes their prices very competitive for the area.

The wine list is decent for a pub, with enough variation to suit most tastes but some prices as low as £10 to suit a small budget.

The spirit list is basic and it's £3 a measure which may not be that cheap, but as most students prefer their cider, ale and beer, there’s not much fuss.

Baguettes, sausage and mash, hunter's chicken, salads and soups are all available and they do a deal where you can get two meals for £9 from Monday to Friday. At other times a steak and ale pie will set you back £6.95.

The Last Word
For a fun night with no worries and a casual vibe, The Avery is a reliable pub.
