A basic pub with no particular flair, just old men getting steadily drunk on cheap beer.

The Venue
This simple pub has none of the worn-out features that usually haunt traditional boozers, but also no modern slickness to make it stand out.

The red and orange walls combined with yellow curtains create warm tones and a cosy atmosphere, but not a very stylish look.

Basic wooden tables and chairs with faded upholstery fill the bar, and the bookshelves are the only hint of character.

The place is spacious and well-lit, and the outside area is a pleasant place in the summertime to get away from the busyness of Hills Road.

This pub basically has all the standard things you expect, but it desperately needs an injection of something refreshing or characteristic to make it more interesting.

The People
During the day you may wander inside and find only a handful of people sitting around, and they’re usually bored old men.

In the evenings, or during lunch, there can be a fair few people, with a mix of working professionals, students and any local who feels thirsty. At these times there is a bit more life to the place, but not much.

The general atmosphere is always relaxed and casual, however, the lack of jovial chatter at certain times of the day leaves the place feeling dead. Sports nights are when the Globe is at its most animated.

The Food and Drink
The choice of drinks covers the basics and although it's an ale house the ales on offer aren’t enough.

John Smith's, Fosters, Becks and Stella are on tap for around £3 a pint, while Flowers IPA, which isn’t often seen around Cambridge, is also served.

Spirits are relatively cheap for £2.90 a measure, but the brands are basic. The wine list is sparse and the quality isn’t great, but the prices are cheap enough to justify it.

The Globe has a basic menu of bar snacks such as burgers, fish and chips, plus a few sandwiches. Burgers go from £4.95 to £5.95.

The Last Word
For a quick drink in a very quiet pub The Globe fits the bill, but if you want more from your drink you best head elsewhere.
