The ViewCambridge Review
A must on the list of pubs to visit in the summer, The Mill has encapsulated the beauty of a relaxed sunny day sitting by the river.
The Venue
The Mill's picturesque location is the main reason why it's so well-known. Being right by the river, in a quieter part of town, it's ideal for many Cambridge locals.
Inside, it's suprisingly well-lit and cosy, with warm colours of maroon and cream, and wooden and tiled floors, and haphazard seating.
There are benches, faded upholstered stools and chairs dotted around various tables. Outside, the seating area is much larger and more spacious.
The character of the traditional pub has remained intact so everything is a bit rough round the edges, but in a nice way.
The People
The pub is geared towards students, however, young and old mix well in this laidback pub and on summer weekends families fill up the beer garden.
You might see a few tourists sampling some real ale as well, but it's mostly youthful faces who come to The Mill to relax over a casual drink with friends.
The Food
The Mill is ideal for basic, cheap food. They serve a limited collection of pub classics like burgers, sausage and mash, and pie.
Everything is around £5 going up to £9, so putting a dent in your wallet is impossible. It isn’t spectacular cuisine, but it's good for what you pay for.
The Drink
The real ales are the most popular drink here and they cost around £3 a pint. There are classics such as London Pride, Hobgoblin and Adnam’s Bitter on tap, and a few guest ales. Past guest ales are displayed with beer mats all over the beams.
Beers on tap are around £3.50 a pint and cover the favourites like Guinness, Fosters and Grolsch.
Wines are around £3.50 a glass and £11.85 a bottle for the house wine, which is nothing special but drinkable. The usual spirits are served here, but at a cheap deal of £2.85 for a double.
The Last Word
A simple pub which harks back to the old-fashioned days of no frills drinking - just sunshine and a pint of ale to keep you happy.
