A friendly pub with lots of low-key class and an addictive cosy feeling that locals just love.

The Venue
Sitting on Ferry Path only a few minutes away from the centre, The Old Spring is nicely hidden within quiet suburban roads. And, once you step inside, it feels like a suburban house, but more exciting than your own living room.

There are simple decorative details – exposed brick walls, wooden furniture and a nice fireplace – that somehow create a homely feel even though it's relatively full of customers.

Move further into the pub and you'll find the conservatory, which is filled with light. This leads onto the decked patio which has massive tables perfect for large groups and a fabulous secluded feeling.

The warmth of the Old Spring is enhanced by the use of reds and oranges and, even though the pub looks new, it still has the charm of an old-fashioned local.

The People
The people of the Old Spring aren’t here to get wasted and they aren’t here to flirt, they’re just here to socialise with good friends in a friendly atmosphere.

People of all ages, including lots of families during the day, take advantage of the casual informality in this pub to enjoy a few quiet drinks and maybe a meal.

The place always has quite a lot of customers in it, especially in the summer when they spill out into the outside area, however, somehow the place never seems too busy so everyone drinks at a relaxed place as they lap up the buzz around the room.

The Food
The food may be classic British pub grub, but it has a sophisticated Cambridge twist to it and it's done well. Tasty sandwiches and salads are on the menu of course, plus a few more hearty mains like fish and chips or sausages and mash.

A favourite of the regulars is the homemade burger with tzatziki – a great combination of flavours that always hits the spot.

The Drink
There are usually about six real ales on tap, which can be quite a rarity in Cambridge so the locals take advantage of this. Abbots Ale, Greene King IPA and Ringwood are among those available for under £3 a pint, plus there’s Heineken, Fosters and Carling for around £3.

The wine list isn’t bad with a global selection for £10 to £18 a bottle, covering some decent quality choices.

The Last Word
The Old Spring has all the freshness of a new pub with all the appeal of a traditional local, making this a worth while pub to visit in Cambridge.
