Hello all,I ate at Anthurium on Wed evening - it was FAB!
There was a large party of men in the other area to us and the atmosphere throughout was delightful, in fact they asked to see the chefs and at the end of the evening they appeared and got a standing ovation no less!
From what I over heard they were a "diners club" and were more than impressed with things. The waitresses were very attentive to our needs too and I cannot fault them, even though it was busy we didnt feel rushed or forgotten.
My food was amazing - I ate 3 courses as did my husband. Although not on the menu I asked if they could do me the crab starter with parmesan crisps, confit tomato etc as it is absolutely delicious - they did it which you dont get from many places now.
My husband had the beetroot and goats cheese (well a girl likes to try new things) and it was gorgeous - will definitely order it next time. Our main courses were Sea Bass (mine) and oxtail.
They were perfectly seasoned - I have never eaten such tasty food. I read someone elses review and I believe in such restaurants salt & pepper is not put on the table for this reason, however i'm sure if asked the waitresses would have bought it to the table.
Deserts - I had cambridge ceam which was very cleverly put back in an egg (how?) and a cheese board.
The cheese was a fantastic mix of flavours and with the bread sticks and variety of crackers it was all great.Definitely worth a look and now my new favourite place to dine!I love it!!!
Booked for my wife's birthday on Saturday. Very disappointing. First we presented with bread, two half slices, wholemeal was just a normal sliced loaf.
Starters were ok, but Parmesan crisps on crab, do not really mix! Main course I had pork, very, very bland, no one came to ask if all was ok, no salt/pepper on table.
Desert i had cheese board which was terrible, 2 thins, 1 Jacobs and 2 Ritz biscuits, i have never had ritz biscuits on a cheese board before!!
Small piece of double Gloucester, the sort you buy at the super market for a lunch box, a piece of Brie split into 3, worse cheese board i have ever had!!! All I can say is food was ediable nothing more.B
ill came to £78 money not well spent, we were going to enquire about having my companies Christmas party there, but will now seek another option.
Website and menu talk a great game, but failed to deliver, will not return.
Actually, no stars! We have been on Friday, 19th of June, six of us.
When we sat and waitress asked what we would like to drink first, there was small shock for me-asked for martini bianco, with one ice and two olives.
They said that they have black olives and would I like them in my martini??
And then, I have got my drink in glass that it made me speechless-you know glass when you by Nutella and somebody like to use that glass after finishing Nutella. Yes, I was served "martini"in that glass.
My friend next to me has ordered Bloody Mary. But, the waitress managed to spill all of it on myself and my very expensive bag!
I was not angry with her, it could happen to everyone. Actually,I was shocked that she ran away!
For next 5 minutes, my friends,I and other people around our table were trying to wipe my back, my bag...mess.
NOBODY from staff came to help us! Did not want to make scene, we stayed, expecting Manager-Owner will come to apologize...NO.
Other waitress came and said that drink would be on the house. Not really, because later we got bill with all drinks in it???
Whole night, everything was late, missing...When we were leaving, Mr manager-owner was sitting, holding beer, DID NOT apologise again, DID NOT stand up, DID NOT say thank you...no manners at all!
THAT is what have made me really angry! Not that poor girl-waitress, who spilled drinks over me and my beautiful bag,but Manager-Owner who was acting so arrogant!!!
On Friday my family stopped here for lunch, we sat in their beautiful garden and had the most fantastic lunch.
We were made to feel so welcome from start to finish and they were really accomodating to our children.
We would recomend the Salmon risotto, the pork, and the pudddings were out of this world and so well presented.
We will certainly go again.
Oh my god!My Partner and a dear friend had treated me for my birthday (27/05/09) for dinner at the Anthurium, and it was amazing.
You are made to feel welcome as soon as you walk in. We had sat in the lovely decored bar where we relaxed having a drink, then we were shown to our table.
Every mouthful of my starters, mains and dessert was orgasmic. I have never had food like it, and niether had my partner and friend.
The presentaion of the dishes where perfect. You can tell that the Chef loves what he does and takes pirde in it, as its shown in his food.
For 3 courses £30 you can't go wrong.I will go again and again from now on.
Thank you for a fantastic experience xxxChristina Forster
We had dinner at Anthurium on Saturday last week, the place was busy and we still had good service and i must say fantastic food this boy can cook,
I had what was the best terrine i have ever tasted of smoked ham hock and confit chicken with peas and broad beans dressing fantastic combination and very seasonal,
My wife had the crab salad with confit tomato and pureed avocado and gazpacho dressing truly lovely and wonderful presentation,
we could not find fault with this new gastronomic destination apart from the wine list being slightly small but at the same time very good value, they are working on the size i am told so all good.
We eat out 3-4 times a week in all the top restaurants here and in the capital and must say this is up there with the best,
Value for money and no service charge unheard of these days in nice restaurants someone still has a conscience,
All in all a great evening which did not break the bank and deserts are to die for the most stunning version of our very own Cambridge cream(creme brulee) if your french served in an egg shell with its own little pot of strawberry things and almond soldiers very clever,
A great evening will be back quite a lot me thinks
We ate here just after it re-opened and unfortunately had quite a disappointing experience.
Firstly the bottle of wine we chose was bought to us just in a glass without us seeing the bottle chosen.
We ordered our food and shown to our seats. My starter was very tasty but such a tiny portion with barely a mouthful of each item.
My main course of Sea Bass was not only very small but not cooked enough.
I had to send it back to be cooked but was told that this was how it should be cooked.
I am afraid that as a previous caterer, I know exactly how the sea bass should be cooked and having it raw is not correct.
Overall I felt the inexperienced service and very high price of the food did not make our visit enjoyable and not one I would repeat.
We visited Anthurium last night for a special occasion and although due to a failed delivery several of the wines listed were unavailable this did nothing to spoil our evening.
The resturant itself can cater for around 24 covers but there is plenty of space between tables.
The decor is chic and contempory with comfortable dining chairs and big bold prints all serves to make the atmosphere feel cosy and intimate.
The food is exquisite and unlike any I have tasted before. I chose the Pork Belly which just melted in my mouth and when eaten with the black pudding was to die for.
We had an interesting debate about how we thought the chef was able to produce such crispy crackling and yet keep it from curling.
The one thing I would say is that the mineral water was fairly expensive as was the coffee and as a result if your budget is a little restricted make sure it might be worth bearing that mind.
But as I say it was a special occasion and so the boat was pushed out.
All in all Anthurium was a splendid dining experience and was worth every penny.
Compliments to the Chef !!
Fabulous, the food was really delicious. We dined there on Saturday night and had a wonderful experience.
One of the outstanding aspects of the visit was the delightful waitresses who were so pleasant and helpful a real credit to the whole ambiance of the restaurant, they were attentive and efficient without intruding.
I had the crab followed by 8 hour slow roast belly pork ..with THE crispiest crackling, of which I could have eaten more and more...but that would be greedy!!
and impossible as there was more than enough in the serving, Very contemporary decor and considering recession and the fact it was the week-end before a bank holiday the restaurant was busy and buzzing which is great.
Hope they continue to do well
Have been to 21 High St harston every time it changed hands even from when it was a pub, only to be disapointed in the past but the Anthurium is AMAZING quality food fanastic presentation.
Even my son (25) was amazed and he is not into food. Have been every month this year and cannot fault it at all. Recommend that you go. Same its not on the local secrets web site.

After endless names and "under new management" signs, this venue finally seems to have found its feet. While it still looks a little like a ship at sea from outside, it's definitely well anchored inside with gorgeous food that's beautifully presented, and fantastic wine. The menu is limited, but doesn't matter as it delivers perfection.
We also dropped in for a drink one evening and my only criticism is the lights in the bar are far too glaring. So, turn the lights down, light your candles (in the restaurant too), and you've got something really very appealing.
Long may it last!

I love the fact that I no longer have to traipse into Cambridge and then fork out for a taxi home in order to enjoy a quality meal now. Who would have thought that us Harston residents would have such a fantastic restaurant on our doorstep!!!
