The ViewCambridge Review
A real taste of the fun side of Brazil, with exotic fruit juices and comfy sofas to sit and waste away the afternoon.
The Venue
The name of the venue gives away its South American influence, but as soon as you step inside it's pretty obvious anyway. Vibrant Brazilian art hangs on the walls while upbeat Latino music plays on the sound system.
And, if you haven't already guessed it, there's a counter displaying guarana juice and Brazilian coffee, proving this cafe's roots are firmly South American.
The place itself is basic and functional, with plain sofas that you can really lounge about on, plus plenty of seating considering it's such a small space.
There's a massive blackboard displaying the food on offer, plus a simple laminated menu describing the large array of fruit juices available to revitalise and soothe the weary wanderers of Mill Road.
The People
Somehow the mix of people that frequents this cafe works together to create a friendly environment. Maybe it's the lively music that does it.
Students congregate here to relax together, families get their daily portion of fruit in an alternative and fun way, while couples sit reading the paper and friends take a fresh outlook on a cafe break.
There isn’t an ounce of stress around, just warmth and ease that seems to affect everyone who walks through the door.
The Food
This is the one part of the cafe where Brazil doesn’t seem to fly the flag. Instead of tacos and nachos they serve English breakfasts, salads, jacket potatoes, panini and quiches.
Everything is freshly made and prices are around £3 to £4, so keeping it simple but cheap. The homemade cakes are also mostly English inspired but well-made and very delicious.
The Drink
The coffees and teas are what you'd expect and go from £1.30 for a regular espresso and £1.20 for a tea.
There is also a interesting drink called guarana juice from Brazil that’s only £1.10 and worth a try for an authentic taste of the country.
The fruit juices are extremely fresh and tasty, made with 100 per cent natural tropical fruit pulp from Brazil.
Every possible ingredient is available such as mango, papaya, cupuacu, guava, pineapple, cashew…the list is endless and surprising. For £2 you can have a pure juice or for £2.20 you can have a smoothie.
The Last Word
Add a bit of Brazilian sunshine to your life by popping over to Cafe Brazil and trying a fruit juice you’ve never heard of.
