An inexpensive cafe with a greasy spoon menu that Cambridge shoppers seem to appreciate.

The Venue
In the heart of the shopping district, only a short walk from the Grafton Centre, is this simple caff.

From the outside, passers-by can glance at the clean lines, pale wooden furniture and polished yet understated appearance of Cafe Eleven.

The large windows let in plenty of light, which is emphasised by the cream walls, so the general feel of the place is refreshing.

Cheap and cheerful art on the walls adds a touch of colour, and simple, laminated menus await hungry customers on each table.

The People
This type of cafe is dying out in Cambridge so there are quite a few locals who appreciate what this one has to offer.

Shoppers who have spent too much money can enjoy a meal without guilt, students who are too lazy to make their own breakfast can cure their hangovers and families who want to feed their kids minus the fuss can – and all for a cheap price.

Staff are friendly and not particularly hurried, and they never want to get too rushed off their feet so this laidback attitude rubs off on customers.

The Food
For under a fiver, you can get anything from simple toasties to full blown breakfasts.

The grease-free option of baguettes, baps and sandwiches provide a filling meal or snack for only £3, while toasties have the added bonus of delicious melted cheese.

The various breakfast combos may be a cholesterol overload but they’re a tasty start to the day, and for later on there are choices like burgers, salads and egg and chips to tempt your taste buds.

Cafe Eleven isn't the place for posh nosh but what they serve is basic and tasty, and it's the ideal place if you're in the mood for a bit of comfort food.

The Drink
A simple selection of soft and hot drinks is offered, with everything under £2. For the ultimate caffeine fix get a large coffee for only £1.50, or a soothing cup of tea for around £1.

The Last Word
Cafe Eleven may not be the most health conscious or the most modern cafe, but it serves old-fashioned, hearty grub that everyone deserves to treat themselves to, without breaking the bank.
