Cafe Rouge is part of a chain but the Cambridge branch is well established with a very distinctive personality and atmosphere. The menu is not extensive but the dishes in French style are freshly prepared from good quality ingredients, nicely warm (when appropriate!), well seasoned and in generous portions. I have enjoyed taking supper here quite often and the staff are always extremely friendly and attentive, the service prompt and the (mid-range) prices quite reasonable. I can't comment on the winelist, but it looks well chosen. Probably wise to book in advance on a week-end. What is really good is the atmosphere, amusing decor, comfortable seating, lively but not impossibly noisy, no hurry to move customers on even in busy times: all relaxed and agreeable. Even the coffee is good! It is a successful restaurant, and it deserves to be.
