If fair trade coffee and friendly conversation is high on your cafe agenda, then Cambridge Coffee Company ticks all your boxes.

The Venue
In the midst of Hills Road sits a little cafe with nothing extraordinary to draw your attention to it, or to keep you there. But it has a sweet, simplistic quality which is a refreshing change from the usual charmless coffee shop chains.

It’s a large cafe with plenty of spacious seating including comfy sofa areas and chic, high tables. The counter displays the fresh food on offer and the basic, functional decor serves its purpose effectively.

Big windows let in lots of light which refreshes the cafe's slightly faded appearance, and the large colourful boards hanging behind the bar show off the menu.

But, with no particular character or flair, Cambridge Coffee Company can fail to impress.

The People
A mix of people walk past Cambridge Coffee Company, from students wearing battered Converse to older locals in comfy loafers, and all sorts step in for a coffee.

The atmosphere is very laidback and friendly, which is encouraged by the lovely staff. They'll have a nice chat with you even if you’re not a familiar face.

The Food
The food is straightforward which means it’s easy to make, therefore you're unlikely to end up with a bad meal.

You can create your own sandwich from £2.60, and you can choose your bread and there's a host of fillings to suit even the strangest craving, such as egg, falafel and Chinese chicken (or a good old ham and cheese).

The same applies to salads, which cost £3, with lots of dressings added into the list and tasty toasties for £2.50. Everything tastes fresh and delicious and, although it's not swish, it hits the spot nicely.

The Drink
All the coffee and tea sold in Cambridge Coffee Company is organic and fair trade so you can enjoy your latte with a clear conscience.

It tastes excellent for only £2, with prices ranging from £1.20 for a small Americano to £2.60 for a large white chocolate Americano if you’re feeling more indulgent.

Fresh smoothies and milkshakes are also available for a more refreshing lift.

The Last Word
For a good quality coffee, served with a smile, try Cambridge Coffee Company.
