With a stylish interior and an extensive drinks list, The Castle is a chic contemporary bar that deserves a better reputation than its predecessor.

The Venue
The Castle was once an old man’s pub with a dull appearance and a very macho vibe. Now it’s more metrosexual, with a modern decor that adds a whole new edge to the place.

Chandeliers, sleek grey walls, blocks of bold wallpaper and delicate lighting make The Castle an elegant bar rather than just a pub.

All the tables are dark, polished wood and set for dining rather than just drinking, giving a more grown up look to The Castle.

The People
At the right times, The Castle has a great mix of youthful energy and an older laidback quality.

Customers include everyone from students wanting a delicious cocktail, to couples and families enjoying meals together, as well as groups of friends having a natter over a pint.

The vibe is friendly and can be lively at certain times of the day, but if you walk past on a dull day the place seems eerily quiet.

The Food
Going for sophisticated gastropub food and using fresh, tasty ingredients, The Castle serves hearty British dishes with some global influences.

Brunch on the weekends is especially popular here, which obviously includes a decent full English, but there is a daily selection of salads such as Moroccan tabouli and halloumi kebabs.

Gourmet burgers are also a popular choice, with open ciabattas and sharing plates for something lighter. All dishes are under £10 making them affordable as well.

The Drink
With everything from cocktails to wine and beer, The Castle has no shortage of choice. For £6.95 you can try a Castle signature cocktail, with exotic options like Mediterranean Elixir (figs, Galliano, vodka and Malibu) or creamy rich drinks like Dark Knight (Kahlua, Krupnik Vodka, creme de cacao, espresso and sugar syrup.)

The combination of premium spirits and fresh ingredients makes the cocktails taste delicious.

And for those who love the classics there are the favourites such as Cosmopolitan and White Russian on offer for £5.95.

A mostly French influenced list of wines range in price from £12.95 to £29.95. There are regularly changing guest ales for £2.80 plus eight draught beers to chose from for £3 to £3.50 a pint.

The Last Word
The Castle offers a leisurely meal with good quality drinks in a modern laidback atmosphere.
