The ViewCambridge Review
CB2 has everything you want from a cafe. With a delicious light menu, great drinks, live music and a library section, it’s a wonderful place to relax.
The Venue
Not far from the busy city centre, CB2 is a chilled-out cafe which has so much on offer it meets everyone’s needs.
Outside, the bright yellow-orange awnings stand out against the grey buildings, and the courtyard is cleverly created to make you feel enclosed and cut off from the busy main road that’s only metres away. It's a peaceful area to enjoy in the summer.
Inside, the exposed brick walls have been painted a pale yellow, and simple wooden furniture gives CB2 a minimalist look.
Bookshelves line the walls, with a whole library section that customers can delve into during their lunch.
Cool indie music plays quietly downstairs while people surf the internet and drink coffee. But upstairs it's much quieter, with people working away or absorbed in a book.
Work from local featured artists covers the walls, adding a fresh look every time it changes, and this sums up the quirky vibe this cafe has achieved.
The People
The crowd here is welcoming to all, however, they all have a similar mindset - they're effortlessly cool but not showy. They're more interested in art, literature, music and coffee.
Everyone here is after a relaxing time in a unique atmosphere that isn't tainted with the corporate coldness of the chain coffee shops.
Lots of students and working professionals with an interest in something more laidback and comfortable than most Cambridge cafes flock to CB2. Here they can either sit in the corner and quench their literary thirst, or chat away with friends – there’s room for loud and quiet at CB2.
The Food
The hearty rustic food served at CB2 is simple, fresh and cooked with imagination which makes it stand out as more than just a quick bite.
For something light there are tasty wraps, salads and pastas that are globally inspired to make a change from boring British cuisine.
There's also a bistro special menu with mains at £12.95 for dishes based around venison, lamb, chicken and tuna as well as vegetarian options.
The Drink
The beers list offers a few rare foreign beers such as Asahi, Pilsner and Cusquena, but the favourites like San Miguel, Carlsberg, Magners and Adnam’s Bitter are also served for around £3.
A simple list of spirits is offered for £2.85 for 25ml, and wines go from £10 to £28 a bottle and they cover a good range with details on the menu.
Hot drinks are cheap at £2 and under, with a basic list of coffees and teas covered as well as a few herbal choices.
The Last Word
A cafe with style and a unique character that offers a little something for everyone to enjoy.
