great food ok service old boss has a penchant for young teens
I agree with the reviewer that said the service here was the shittest ever. I really have never experienced anything so poor before, we should have walked out. I went there with my family for what was meant to be a special occasion. My husband had eaten there before and said the food was really good. It was a Saturday night, not especially busy and we were perfectly civil and polite to the waitress. Drinks were served promptly but it took about one hour and 15 minutes before we received our food. One bowl of soup did appear earlier, about half and hour after our order. Customers who arrived earlier got their food before us.
The problem seemed to be that there is only the owner/cook and a very unprofessional waitress. Yes, fresh well cooked food takes long to prepare but that was really too long. If he had to keep us waiting so long, the owner could have at least provided us with some small snacks on the house. When the food came, it was tasty though the portions were perhaps on the small side. But we had got irritated waiting and really the evening was spoilt for us. We will not be returning. The waitress was a little apologetic but it is really the owner who should have apologised.
Decent food, absolute shittest service I've EVER received.
Sat down for a dinner for two, then told minimum was 25£ which was no problem at all. We ordered what we could with the Manager and said we'd order the last dish after we'd thought about it a little more. Agreed.
Main course came and he served us 'button' mushies instead of the 'white' mushrooms that were on the menu. We called him back to catch him out, and he actually said 'no you are wrong. U don't know anything about food'.
We'd decided on our last dish and called over the waitress. She spoke minimal english but after pointing out what we were after, she took the order back to the kitchen. We ate our mains and waited for our last dish. It never came. We called the waitress over who fetched the Manager. He said he had no order. We said we'd ordered with his waitress to his response, 'no, she doesn't take orders. Only i take the orders, so that is impossible.' Obviously, we explained that we'd ordered with her and to call her over so she could confirm. To his response, 'NO! That is all irrelevant now. I don't have the order so you can't have ordered.' Still no attempt to just make the bloody food we'd ordered. And really, we were just trying to make up the 25£.
So after 10 minutes of waiting, he just brought the bill out and said 'Dumplings take too long, it will take more plates and labour and we just don't have time now.. so here's the bill.' We were absolutely freakin amazed. He was incomprehensibly rude and really agressive. Which is obviously why his restaurant was empty on a saturday night. Deservingly so. Such a shame, quite decent food just no people or business skills to support the quality product.
Hakka was a revelation after years of complaining that I couldn't find a good Chinese restaurant in Cambridge.
Every meal I've ever had there has been excellent and a world away from the stodgy chinese food you often get in this country.
Really very good indeed.
"Highly recommended.
This is the best chinese restaurant that I have ever been to, as the food is excellent quality (for eg fish is bought fresh from the local markets and some are even imported from China especially) and the chef is very good.
He seemed like a very genuine kind guy, who is only just starting to make a profit, largely because the restaurant doesn't attract much passing trade, but trade is now increasing from word of mouth.
Admittedly, we did choose to spend a lot on the meal, but we were offered a drink on the house, and he even ended up giving us a lift home!
How's that for customer service! This is the first review I have ever written (for anything!) but I felt compelled to support an excellent restaurant and its owner."
