A friendly student haunt with an affordable menu and a simple freshness that makes it a pleasant place for a coffee.

The Venue
From the outside Martin's Coffee House seems like your average cafe, and inside is what you'd expect - simple decor, simple cafe. Yet, as you sit and get comfortable, you'll start to appreciate this place's unique vibe.

The white walls with blocks of red on them are a pleasing contrast of plain and vibrant. The pale wood furniture is purely practical, and there's a counter displaying the food.

A few vintage posters are the only extra decoration and Martin's Coffee House looks like it's been stripped to its bare essentials.

There's a large blackboard menu above the counter, and once you’ve purchased your goodies you can either sit in the communal spacious area or wander down the narrow back end of the cafe for somewhere more secluded.

The People
The simplicity of Martin's Coffee House probably baffles most of Cambridge's older community as it may seem cold and dull to them. However, for the students of the town, the basic informality suits them very well.

Most come here to enjoy a cup of tea in a refreshing, fuss-free cafe that’s light and airy with a chilled-out vibe.

At times it can be very quiet, with small clusters of students keeping to themselves and chatting at a quiet murmur. But at other times a more rowdy bunch comes in to fill up on some proper food.

The Food
Student staples are all on the blackboard, such as the hangover cure breakfasts or tasty sandwich snacks. There's also healthy and filling jacket potatoes or a sugar fix of cookies and cakes.

Everything is around £5 or under so it suits the student budget and there is enough variation to please most customers.

The Drink
There's all the usual choices, with various coffees and teas from £1.50 to £1.90 in decent cup sizes. But there are also a few random specials that come and go frequently, such as a mango lassi for £2.05 which adds an appealing unique twist to an otherwise simple drinks menu.

The Last Word
You may not know who Martin is but you can depend on his coffee house for a relaxing lunch and a chilled-out afternoon tea.
