The ViewCambridge Review
If you’re hankering for a fabulous cocktail or a decent glass of wine then The Snug is for you. It strikes the right balance between cosy and chic making drinking an even more enjoyable experience.
The Venue
Tucked away on Lensfield Road, The Snug's deep red sign and awning catches your eye. The deep red colour is woven into the decor and combines with chocolate brown leather furniture, a wooden bar and cream walls.
Areas of exposed brick and wooden panelling give hints of an old-fashioned past, but the clean, smooth lines give a general sleek appearance. However, there still seems to be a familiar heart and soul to the place, largely to do with the warm tones and friendly atmosphere.
Outside there’s a decked seating area surrounded by leafy green goodness which makes you feel as though you're not in the middle of the city. This area is popular on long summer days, perfect of al fresco drinking.
The People
No particular age group or type goes to The Snug, but all of them have a youthful amiability and a hint of effortless cool that adds sophistication to this laidback bar.
A mixture of trendy students and laidback professionals pop in, slouch down on the comfy sofas and lap up the bubbly ambience while sipping their favourite cocktail.
Regular live acoustic music brings out yet more cool locals, all eager to hear the latest new band while enjoying a few glasses of wine.
The Food
The Snug has a varied menu that appeals to all who enjoy fuss-free comfort food, including full breakfasts for £6.45 and pancakes for £5.45.
Delicious gourmet burgers cost around £9 or there's a simple pasta, salad or wrap for a lighter option. The food is fresh and presented well so it’s an ideal place to start your night with a meal as well as a drink.
The Drink
The cocktail list at The Snug is exceptional. With categories such as Champagne, gin, ice cream, martini, rum, whisky, vodka and tequila shots the choice seems endless.
Prices vary around £6 to £8, with classics like Bellini and Bloody Mary taken care of, but there are also a few unique choices like Razzbaretto, a combination of wild raspberry liqueur and amaretto, creating an addictive sweet fruity drink.
On tap the prices for a pint are around £3 and Leffe, Staropramen, Kronenbourg and Becks are among those available plus a guest ale.
The wine list is certainly unique and interesting, with wines from an independent supplier. Prices range from £13.50 to £27.90 which encompasses a broad spectrum of quality and taste.
